New this year is a Classic Series combining three events - the MMBA Annual Regatta, The Belvedere Classic Regatta and the Great Schooner Race, and the Jessica Cup. For details of the series, see below and the attached Notice.
Notice of Series: SF Bay Classic Championship Series
Organizing Authority (OA): Master Mariners Benevolent Association (MMBA), The San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC), St. Francis Yacht Club (StFYC).
1. RULES
1.1. The SF Bay Classic Championship Series (hereafter referred to as “Series”) will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
1.2. Individual regattas will make up the Series, and are listed in NOS 2.1-2.3. Eligibility requirements differ between regattas, and the overall Series.
2. ELIGIBILITY
2.1. The Master Mariners Regatta is open to boats that are active MMBA Members. 2.2. The Belvedere Classic Regatta and Great SF Schooner Race are open to boats of traditional design and construction with a minimum of 30 feet on deck.
2.3. The Jessica Cup is open to boats of traditional design and construction with a minimum of 30 feet on deck and other fleets as described in the Notice of Race.
2.4. The SF Bay Classic Championship Series is open to vessels competing in at least two of the regattas listed above.
2.4.1 Final classes will be determined for the Championship at the completion of the Series
3. ENTRY
3.1. Eligible boats shall enter by completing the registration and competing in the Regattas.
4. FEES
4.1. Entry fees shall be paid at the time of registration for each regatta as described in the respective Notices of Race.
5. SCHEDULE
5.1. Any amendments to the schedule will be posted on the respective regatta’s website on the day before they are to take effect.
Master Mariners Regatta: Saturday, May 25, 2019
Belvedere Classic Regatta and Great SF Schooner Race: Saturday, July 13, 2019 Jessica Cup: Saturday, October 19, 2019
6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
6.1. The Sailing Instructions for each regatta will be available on each event’s website.
7. PENALTY SYSTEM
7.1. Each regatta will define its penalty system.
8. SCORING
8.1. Each regatta will define its division, handicap and scoring system.
8.2. The Series shall count points for finishes in the Master Mariners Regatta, Belvedere Classic Regatta and Great SF Schooner Race, and Jessica Cup. Divisions scored for the Series may be different than divisions scored for individual regattas in the Series, and will not include boats participating only in individual races but not the entire Series. The Series shall be scored as three races, and all races will count towards each boat’s final score. Points for any boat not competing (DNC) in any one of the regattas will be calculated when final divisions are determined.
9. RADIO COMMUNICATION
9.1. The race committee for each regatta may broadcast information about each day’s race on VHF channel as defined in their respective Sailing Instructions.
10. PRIZES
10.1. The trophy presentations for each regatta will be held as scheduled in each event’s Notice of Race.
10.2. The SF Bay Classic Championship Series shall award perpetual trophies at the conclusion of the Jessica Cup at the St Francis Yacht Club.
11. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
11.1. Competitors participate in the races or the Series entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authorities will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the race or Series.
