Vote for Viveka! Vote for Jeff Rutherford!

Long time Master Mariner’s Sponsor, wood boat conservator and friend Jeff Rutherford’s most recent project, the 1930, Frank C Paine designed 22.2 meter Viveka, has been nominated for a Classic Boat Award by Classic Boat Magazine of the UK. Viveka was sailed for many years an SF Bay by her longtime owner, Merle Peterson. You can read more about her and find a great video about the restoration in Latitude 38 (also a longtime MMBA sponsor!)

Viveka has been nominated for an award in the Restored Sailing Vessel over 40ft category.

VIVEKA
Restored by Rutherford’s Boatshop, Designed Frank C Paine, Built Fred Lawley, 1930, LOD 72ft 9in (22.2m), Rig bermudan schooner

Everything about Viveka is distinctive, from her first owner (JP Morgan) to her double carvel hull construction, to the fact that she’s the only schooner-rigged 12-M yacht in the world that we know of. Her restoration, completed at the very tail end of 2020 for an English owner, was the complete works, and a big job for the Jeff Rutherford of California, the conservator also behind the restorations, over the years, of Joyant (P-Class), Cangarda (126ft/38m steam yacht) and the stupendous schooner Coronet (ongoing).
